PALS has become an integral part of Western Australian school teaching plans since it was launched in 2004 to support the introduction of Indigenous studies into the school syllabus.

The PALS acronym is based on the qualities of ‘Partnership’,’ Acceptance’, ‘Learning’ and ‘Sharing’. The program encourages young people to take a leadership role in strengthening relationships in their local community between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

Through project work students expand their knowledge of traditional Indigenous culture and lifestyle and explore how it has been impacted over the past two hundred years by external factors including European settlement, government policies, religion, technology and education. This new level of understanding is used to introduce a positive change in the community.

 PALS complements the teaching syllabus and has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Education, Catholic Education Office and the Association of Independent Schools of WA.

Relationships have been forged and are continually strengthened each year with education organisations including the Department of Education, [Hyperlink] Catholic Education Office and the Association of Independent Schools WA.

PALS participants contribute to building a better society – a community that is ultimately free of racism and prejudice and instead filled with harmony, hope, understanding and acceptance.
