Entering the PALS Awards |
All schools that receive the PALS grant must acquit their project and enter it into the PALS Awards.
The PALS Awards are judged on the impact of the PALS project, with successful entries able to demonstrate how their project has addressed the general and category specific criteria.

To be eligible to claim the PALS grant, schools are required to enter their projects in the PALS Awards.
Please note: Students participating in PALS may be photographed for media promotion of the program, including media releases and the PALS website. If your school has a photo consent policy, that policy will cover students involved in PALS. Alternative arrangements can be made by contacting the PALS team on 9235 8051.

Environmental Scan: Briefly describe the social makeup of the school/college environment, giving consideration to the interaction between Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members and general understanding of Aboriginal heritage.
Example: My school has no Indigenous students and there is limited opportunity for interaction with the broader Indigenous community. One teacher commented that most of the students had never met an Aboriginal person and that their first response was to fear the unknown. There are also deeply entrenched prejudices held by some parents who refuse to allow their children any contact with Indigenous people.
|
|
Briefly explain your PALS project and how it will address one or more of the social or environmental concerns outlined above.
Example: Our school intends to set up a buddy program with Indigenous Elders attending the Elizabeth Hansen Autumn Centre in Bayswater for dialysis treatment. Elders will share stories of country, culture, family and tradition while children will involve Elders in games of art and craft, dance, and music. The students will also create a DVD about the centre, the people they meet and what they learn from the experience, as well as explaining the process of dialysis. Parents will be invited to accompany and transport their children and be part of “Wednesdays at the Autumn Centre,” which we hope will result in new, lasting friendships and a new understanding of what it means to be Indigenous in contemporary Western Australia.
